OT Question for KSB Owners!

badcompnay Jul 04, 2007 02:34 PM

My male KSB has decided to stay fasting its been over 2 months now and I dont know what to do about it. Ive tried to bag him with a pinky. Ive even bought 5 pinkies and placed them in a bunch to try and simulate "a rat nest".....nothing has been working. Ive noticed recently that he has lost a little bit of weight, but he keeps on driking alot of water. I want to know how long this usually lasts since I dont want to resort to force feeding him at all and causing undue stress but if I have to I guess I will.

Took me a while to figure out what a KSB is... but finally I figured it doesn't mean King Snake Board owners LOL but infact means Kenya Sand Boa.

I don't own any kenya sand boas....but maybe you need to increase the humidity? I am just guessing...Might be an ideal, if you haven't already to post this on the sand boa forum (if there is one, or general boa forum, if we don't)

Ok, here's some questions:

1. How old is he?
2. Has he eaten for you before?
3. Are you offering live pinkies?
4. What type of set-up is he in (heat, substrate, etc)?
5. Do you handle him much between attempted feedings?
6. How often have you tried to feed him?

Resist the urge to force feed for as long as possible. Stress is often the reason a snake does not eat and force feeding just causes more stress. You do not mention cage temperature or substrate in your post. The fact that the snake is drinking alot might indicate that the temperature is too high. I know they are a high temperature snake but the cage may be too hot or not provide access to an area with cooler temparature.
