Leo keeps digging substrate from humid hide??

jack7777766 Aug 18, 2003 08:53 AM

Im not sure why she does this. Shes around 5-6 months old definitely not gravid, and has been doing this since I got her 4 months ago. Anyway Im not worried about her since shes growing very well and is very healthy, but Ive tried sphangnum moss and bed-a-beast and she just thros all the substrate out of the hide.

The problem is, It makes a mess, I have to replace it, and she doesnt get the advantages it provides.

Any reason why she could be doing this or how to stop her???

Thanks
Jack

mine do that sometimes when not gravid, just making their bed comfy. Is temp warm enough could be digging down to warmer temps below. just thought.

good ?, we noticed lastnight one of our males (Lenny) was doing that, but we have papertowels in his hide, but he dug them all up. and tore everything. I have bed of beast, has anyone ever had any problem with leos eating it?

As far as temps go, no shes not looking for a warmer spot, temps are fine.
When I had sphangnum moss she would leave some in the cage and this is why I didnt worry thinking she was just rearanging, however with the bed-a-beast she threw it all out!!!!
Thats why Im asking.

as far as the digging goes,if she is not gravid, she is just making it comfy.....If she's making a mess with it, get a new container and cut the hole in the top instead of the side. This makes it so that she can not throw it out the side and make a mess. she will eventually figure out that she has to go in the top to get in.
hope this helps,

Yeah thats what Im thinking of doing, Ill also probably change back to sphangnum moss, I dont really like the bed a beast.

Yes, cut the hole in the top and make sure there's some furniture they can climb on to get inside.

I keep two humid hides, one with paper towels and another with sphagnum moss. They use both, but they spend much more time in the moss one.
