Sulcata Not Gaining Weight?

Phishy090 Jul 04, 2007 07:58 PM

I received my Sulcata Tortoise as a gift this past christmas, he is very small, I am unsure of his age but he couldn't have been very old when I got him, however. Since I received him he has not gained any weight at all, I weigh him religiously every week, and no change since I was given him. In the winter time he was happily eating grass hay, during the summer he eats some grasses when I bring him outside, as well as alot of fresh Alfalfa and Clover. He is very active and eats voraciously. He seems very healthy, and I cannot figure out why he is not gaining weight.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Jon

out of curiosity how are you weighing him? with what. sometimes if you do not use a very accurate scale he could gain 10 grams and it might not register. when they are that small I use a digital scale that can weigh in metric and standard. I have a very small leopard tort that has only gained 7 grams since february but since last august when I got him he has gone from 35 grams to over 80. I think they have growth spurts like humans... hope this helps needless to say there very well could be a problem maybe worms? they would keep the calories from going to the tort,?
