my american alligator is just about 2 feet, and he's starting to outgrow the setup i had him in, which was expected. its time for me to start planning his new cage so i can get under way with building it. first question: will a 4x8 enclosure be big enough to house him untill he's about 4 feet? next question: what are some alligator safe materials i can use for building? can i use epoxy to seal the wood and concrete? if not, what is safe to use to seal surfaces and waterproof them?
does anyone know anything about sculptable foams or anything like it that i can use for landscaping his enclosure instead of using real rock formation, because i would like the enclosure to look as natural as possible. how large and deep of a water area will he need to have to be adequate for him untill he reaches the 4 foot mark? the reason im asking about the enclosure lasting till hes 4 feet is because by that point i plan to be in the process of building a greenhouse to house him in so he'll have all the room he needs. any hints, help, ideas, or any other info you have to offer wll be greatly appreciated because i would like to make my gators captive life as comfortable and naturalistic as possible. thanx in advance for all your help. ive found this forum to be very informative in the past, and since im keeping my gator for the long haul, im glad to have this forum to aid and assist me.
