ASF vs. rats or mice, advantages?

caz223 Jul 05, 2007 09:16 AM

I'm going to the GR show on the 8th and I know they will have some ASF rats there.
I have both rats and mice, however, unless I get a new hatchling or 2 when I'm there, I'm afraid I've outgrown the mice.
Are there any advantages of having ASF rats?
Can their nippiness/agressiveness be selectively bred out of them?
I see random info out there, but would prefer the voice of experience, rather than some advocacy page, merely because someone in enthralled with them as their pet.

They need less space than rats.
They get about 2-3x the size of mice, although it takes a while.
They don't smell much.
Nutritionally, I don't have any data, but my corns seem to grow faster on ASF rats than they did on mice.
They tend to bite, but it's not really a problem if you are careful and don't try to handle them much.
