Suddenly stopped eating

zhivago97 Jul 05, 2007 06:50 PM

My king stopped eating about 3 weeks ago. no sign of shed and he is very active, crawiling all around, just like he does before feeding time.

when i put in f/t mice he zips right over and sniffs, then ignores them. i even tried f/t mice from another vendor and rats (he doesn't eat rats but i thought i'd try again). i tried wet mice, dry mice, with no effect.

nothing has changed in terms of temps or other conditions. water, humidity, hiding spots, undertank heater in 1 corner...nothings changed in a year.

otherwise he looks and acts healthy.

could this be a belated breeding instinct or soemthing else?

i'm stumped.

no worries he'll come around. mostly it has something to do with breeding season that are affecting your snake.
how long have you had him for? how big is he?

I've had him a year, he is over 3.5', and normally eats 1 jumbo mouse a week. FL/CA king hybrid.

sounds like he is mature enough to explore for a mate. i wouldn't worry about it. i had male that were on and off feed after he been bred.

Try teasing him by dragging it around with tongs, I just dangle the mouse and shake it a little, make it look alive, when he comes for it move it away a little bit, stop and wiggle. Tease him and he may go for it.
