Weight Question - Scale off or desc ?

SPJ01 Jul 05, 2007 07:14 PM

I purchased a female BP that was advertised as over 3000 grams. The sellers scale could only go to 3000 and it caused an error so she was most likely over 3000 grams empty. That is the gist of the ad. I weighed her on my scale and she is 2725 empty.
I weighed her again after eating and she still did not hit the 3000 gram mark. Is a 300 gram difference something to be concerned with or is this typical and there is variation between what scale is used when an animal is this large?

2700...3000...Dude, shes HUGE! If it is really something that bothers you then email the seller. Personally if i bought a snake that was advertised at 3000grams and weighed in over 2700 i would not be mad or concerned.

That's kinda what I figured. A few meals and she will be at 3000 grams. Plus this is her weight after laying 2 months ago.
It just caught me a bit off when I put her on the scale.
I think I can live with her only being 2700 grams after laying. LOL.

It is off by 10% thats is a lot.

I cant remember, did the Ad specify "empty"?

Also, people may say 2750 or 3000 no big deal...

But think about it, 250-300 grams has the potential to be two or three good eggs.

3 X's whatever morph = $$

All I can say is if I sold it to you and said 3k empty, it would be 3k.

Thats my opinion.

Steve, if the ad didn't specifically say "empty", she could have easily taken a huge crap (or two) since he wrote the ad and that could account for the weight difference. Even if the ad did say weight was on empty, she may not have been as empty as he thought. Also, he may not have tared his scale before weighing her and part of the weight he was reading may have been the container she was in.

Either way, a 2750g female is pretty dang big, congrats!!!

Some people say "so what" to the weight difference. I, on the other hand, think it's something to seriously consider. Did they lie about the weight or genuinely make a mistake? If they lied, is the sex correct? Is the the snakes feeding habit correct? Would YOU have paid the same price for a snake accurately advertised at 2700 grams? Oh and very important, is YOUR scale correct?

I picked up a snake that was supposed to be 1900 grams and feeding. She arrived at 1600 and not feeding. She was also supposed to be a het. 5 years later and she still hasn't produced anything but normals. See where I'm going with this? A little "white" lie can erode trust in a big way. I try to underestimate weight for the reasons some posts mentioned.
