Genetics question - Super Motleys

tcdrover Jul 05, 2007 07:34 PM

If I had hypo motley & bred her/him to a regular motley,
what would the results of the litter be like?

If the Hypo Motley was a super-hypo motley would that make any difference, versus just a regular hypo motley?

I'm trying to figure out how to have a litter of Super Motleys
& Hypo Super Motleys in one litter. It's possible isn't it?

A Hotley and Motley would yield
1/8 Normal
1/4 Motley
1/8 Super Motley
1/8 Hypo
1/4 Hotley
1/8 Hypo Super Motley

When you said Super-Hypo Motley I'm assuming you mean 2 hypo genes and Motley gene that would yield
1/4 Hypo
1/2 Hotleys
1/4 Hypo Super Motley

I beleive that you would have to have 2 super motley boas to produce a clutch of 100% super motley boas. This is based on hypo crossing in general. A hypo x hypo will produce a 50% hypo and 50% super hypo clutch. A Super hypo to a Super hypo will produce a 100% super hypo clutch. Although, I can't seem to find this anywhere, a super hypo to a hypo it seems to me would poduce approx 75% possible supers since two hypos alone produce a 50% super clutch and you've go a more dominant super hypo gene.
I would assume this is what your situation would be. I hope this was of help.

Good luck with your project.

to your post. A hypo and hypo would yield
50% hypos
25% supers
25% normals

and a super hypo and hypo breeding would yield
50% supers
50% hypos

if you are proving out a possible super hypo then I "think" don't quote me on my numbers althought they are probably right (I'm 95% sure) then you need at least 8 babies for a poss. super to a normal and 17 babies from a possible super to a hypo breeding
