I finally got around to taking new pictures of my set-up. I made sure that I included all of the different suggestions that people gave me in the previous post.
I strapped the bucket/cement block assembly to the clothes-line pole that is next to it. This pole is extremely strong, so I have no doubts that it will hold this perfectly.
I also bought some chicken-wire and made a top for it. I had to take it off for the picture, but it fits well, it prevents Mick from getting out and predators from getting him out either.
The island is a rubbermaid sweater box with some drainage holes in it, filled with pond-plant "soil", the ramps are made of pieces of slate. I planted many different pond plants in the island, also in several pots throughout the pond, plus I have some floating plants to provide shade around the place.
He's still not eating that many of the fish that I have in there for him. He just waits until I feed thim other stuff. Could it be that he just doesn't care for fish that much, and would rather eat mice?
If any one has any more suggestions, please let me know.
Oh, by the way, I just bought a new house last week. I'll be moving at the end of the month, and I will have to take this whole thing with me. Once I re-install it in my house I'm planning on digging it into the ground and, instead of an island, Mick will be able to get completely out of the tub and onto land.
Thanks for looking,
~ Miguel
