Stoole

AshRile Jul 06, 2007 10:07 AM

I was wondering if you can tell if a baby ball python has had its first meal by looking at the stoole. The one I have has not eaten yet but the breeder said it has had a meal, another person who is helping me out says that it did not have its first meal yet and is still passing its yolke out in its stoole. I have never heard of this. Has anyone else heard of this?

I have never heard of it passing yoke, but it could happen.Try a live fuzzy and go from there. If it passed a stool it should like poo. Brown in color shaped like dog poo. If it is urates it is white maybe with a little yellow.

I tried that, but there is no way to tell by looking at fecal or urates?

you can sometimes fine hair or fur in the stool, assuming he was fed something that had hair on it (ie other than rat pinkies which are hairless till about a week old).

Only other way is to look under a microscope and do other lab style work.

How old is the snake? If its more than a couple weeks old, then it would have finished digesting the yolk from the egg,

small adult mice/ just weaned live mice may entice him to eat. Make sure he is completely secure in his cage though, if his basic needs are not met (ie shelter, security, temps etc) then he will be reluctant to eat. Check that first, then try the live weaned mouse.

It is not that uncommon for them not to pass a stool after every meal and if it is doing as you say and passing what was yoke then it would wave had to have eaten something to push out what was eaten prier , just seems like to me if it is eating count your blessings and keep feeding him and go forward from there .David of DS Reptile Rescue
