Strange feeding behavior

jessicaRenee Jul 06, 2007 01:21 PM

Okay, this is my first post but I've searched these forums from time to time. This is more out of curiousity than worry. My ball python, Aleksandr, is healthy and eating his frozen mice like no tomorrow. Near the end of his mouse though, around the hips of it, he nearly always lifts his entire neck off the ground and goes vertical. At least 6 or 7 inches of his body go straight in the air and he just swallows like that. Has anybody seen this before? I like to tell my friends he is just showing off for them but I'd just like to know if I should worry.

most snakes will do that. they are using gravity to help ease the prey down their throat. sounds like your boy is perfectly normal.

No worries - I have balls and boas that refuse to "attack" their food - I have to put it in their box and close the box - they will eat it when they are ready.

Like others have said - sounds like he's using gravity to lend him a hand!

Thanks guys. I figured he was okay. Just looking out for my little guy (who isn't so little anymore).
