turtle shell erosions

blindturtle Jul 06, 2007 02:06 PM

The under side of my box turtle now has three round, smaller than a dime, sized erosions. First saw it two weeks ago. The "first layer" of shell has eroded. Anyone know what causes this? Cause for alarm? I have been washing the bottom shell nightly with antibacterial hand soap and rinsing well. Its not getting any worse. This is a blind turtle that stays in her terrarium.

sounds like it "could" be shell rot. This can be caused by bacteria and/or fungus in soaking water and/or substrate. I'd have a vet to look at it. If it is it is easily treated, especially when caught early.

Ditto on that.
Some type of bacterial or fungal infection was my first thought too.
Let us know what happens with this turtle please.
Good luck with this!
