lance_portal Jul 06, 2007 06:12 PM

I just got a male chahoua and am playin' with the idea of breeding him to some of my crested, a crested x chahoua. I know alot of people HATE the idea of doin this, i was looking for info on what others have came up with and what to expect on eggs, what they will look like and what to breed the male chahoua to get the best colors, thing of this nature.
I know alot of breeders think its wrong, i am just thinking about it and have heard the dislike of this hybrid...thanks..lp

ps...what local might of chahoua be?

I would say two things about this. One, breeders think it's wrong because presuming the hybrid offspring are fertile, you've created something that's not natural and may well spread around. Basically you're peeing in the gene pool. Argue all you want about how albinos and line bred morphs are not natural either, the simple fact exists that they *could* happen in the wild. When presented the choice of a chahoua or a ciliatus to mate with, which do you think the chahoua will choose?

The second thing I have to say is a direct consequence of that - what makes you think that when you put them together, they'll even be willing to breed? What makes you think that the chahoua, being slightly larger, won't bully the crested? Just seems like the potential problems greatly outweigh any benefit (and the benefits of what you deem to be beneficial may be debatable in and of themselves...).

I do not say these things in order to antagonize you, just to try to help you understand why others have said it's a bad idea. I will not harass you about it, and I don't intend to get into an argument, but I had to say my piece.

crested x chahoua could happen in the wild as well, seeing that they live in the same place. Also, who are we to "classify" animals anyway. If the ball python can breed to a woma, then doesn't that makes us wrong about how closely related certain animals are?
