Temperature Guns and Eggs

MarkWarner Aug 18, 2003 11:15 AM

Hi I dont know if this is a bit off topic or not but I have seen the use of temperature guns mentioned here and need some advice.

They do not seem to be very accessable here (England) and if they are they are expensive.

I have seen Pro Exotics Temp Gun for $35.00 which I would have to pay shipping over here for.

My questions are

1) Has anyone had experience of this or can recommend any other other one.

2) How far away from the source can it be. The reason is I have five savannahs and am redoing their housing I want to work out the temps around the vivs under hides etc Just dont want to deal with an ingested temp gun or my fingers )))

Any help would be most appreciated

Definately on topic now:

The main motivation for this is my female Daisy laid eggs at Easter. I saw her mate with Norbert about 4-5 weeks before so they were/are viable. They are still in the incubator and about 5 look ok (she laid 21 but 1/2 went very quickly due to my inexperience and lack of information). Really given me the bug to breed savs regularly so want to get everything as perfect as I can.

Regards

Mark

Hello.
I live in Canada, and ordered a temp gun from Pro Exotics. The guns are available in Canada, but extremely hard to find, and very expensive if you do find one. Even with the exchange rate and paying customs 12 bucks, my gun cost a third of what I can get one here for. Bonus!!!

P.E.'s guns are awesome, they come with a nice case, strap, spare battery and a one year warranty. They're very small, you can walk around with it in your pocket, so its always handy. You'll be very glad you got one. (Can you tell I'm a happy customer?)
You don't have to be super close for it to read...I take it your savs eat anything that is moving? hahahaha

Congrats on the sav eggs, I hope they hatch for you. Very few people worldwide have bred them apparently. This is all the more amazing, considering how many people own them. That's a lot of people not having any luck!
Best wishes to you!

Hi Mark,

Try Maplins, they have a temp gun currently reduced to £29.99, it's rather good. It's an old stock item so they may have to get one transferred from another shop. The code is N14AQ.
I just got one, best thing I ever did!

Hope that helps.

Glad you managed to get one. They really help out with checking gradients. Lucky they had them in your local Maplin.

Cheers Mark
