Territorial actions???

Buggzter Jul 07, 2007 07:23 AM

So my baby ig is almost 3.5" sv, and I've noticed that around his poop EVERY DAY there's a good amount of what looks to be watery pee. Thin 2"-long soft-solid poop, a little white urates, and he has NO symptoms of dehydration.

Today, I caught him at what he was doing. He leaned his hips off a low branch a few inches away from his food, and lifted the leg that was off the branch, and just peed! It looked like a dog marking his territory!

Is this at all normal for an ig to treat his cage this way? There are 7 lizards within his sight, plus Tony and Becca and I on and off durring the day. So is this him showing his territory? Or is this an illness?

His diet is green beans, yellow squash, various fruit added in small amounts, and alfalfa/calcium/vitamin powder to top it off.

He's got an 18" uv bulb right over most of the tank, and a heat lamp for proper temp gradient (the house is about 80F most of the time right now - winter it will be lower).

I just found it odd that he was "marking" his area....

Thanks!

Well, it's too young to be 'pleasuring himself' (if it's a male) and ejaculating... so I guess it is 'pee' (even tho they poop and pee all at the same time).

As long as it eats well, defecates, has bright coloration, is kept misted and hydrated, shows energy, and overall "healthy", I wouldn't be too worried.
I would be worried about hygene and sanitation tho... if he is that messy, keep him and the enclosure immaculate.
