of a relatively crappy breeding season, my first clutch of the season hatched. Out of 9, 2.2 Het Ivories hatched and I proved out my up til now, unproven Het Ivory male.

60 hours a week at work, family, uncooperative weather (again), etc. Just one of those seasons I could not completely focus on my reptiles. Believe it or not, I still have females ovulating - yes, this late in the season!

Jay,
How much of an impact do you feel the odd weather has had on this seasons breeding?
Here in the N. East, it was in 50's until mid-January, then it only got winter cold for a little while. Since March we have had mild spring like weather, with only a couple really hot days. It seems like the winter and summer seasons have been muted?
I have a small collection, however, I notice that this year has been off too?
In addition to a couple girls that didnt even ovulate this past season, I have a couple of my big breeder females that regularly stop eating around November, but have always gone back to feed by March-April, that are still not eating. I also have a couple other girls I was hoping to get to 1400-1500 grams by this fall that are refusing food or have just started to eat.
It is already almost mid-July and my 07/08 breeding plans are being affected.
Maybe I am over analyzing things and nothing is going on...I am not sure?

Some people say cooling is not needed. I have found that when the winter is particularly warm - like our last two (80's in Jan) - I have fewer females that lay eggs. They also seem to spread out - last year I had egg hatch in May and November. All females cycled exactly the same.

Jay I agree. This year has been a weird one. I just witnessed ovulation on 2 females that I thought for sure were not going to go this season. We have 1 clutch hatched, 3 in the incubator room and 2 getting ready to be laid and now 2 more ovulating. I just don't get it but that is part of the game I guess. We got an early start on breeding this season (started in October) but did not get eggs any earlier than normal. Even if I dom't get any more eggs this season I got the clutch from my Sunburst Pastel crosses to further prove their genetics and that was one that I really wanted to get this season. Best of luck with the rest of your females and hopefully you will get alot of females of everything (hoping for luck on both of our parts).

Yeah, that's cool on the Sunburst. I have to head down there so I can see them. Unless of course, you need some rats and then you could just come up. I'm expecting eggs any day from female Pastel X Pastel and het Ivory. I'm curious to see what that brings. I'm palpating follicles in a few of my het Pieds, but damn, at the rate they are going, eggs would be Sept/Oct. Not uncommon, but uncommon for me. Another het albino just ovulated finally. I have a bunch left but it does not look good. I'm just going to get everyone feeding well and shoot for this next season. Sigh.

I really do not have much experience breeding balls. This is my second year breeding balls. I had 25-26 females that was ready to breed. I got 21 clutches. But all i do is work and take care of the ball pythons. Things may be different this coming up season. I will have alot on my plate so I will get to see how it affects the breeding season.
Jay how many clutches do you normally have? How many do you think you will have this season?

I don't have nearly as many as I used to. When I was in Texas, I had about 150. Back in FL, things getting in the way, I have reduced my collection to about 50 and that fluctuates. This year, I had only planned on breeding about 15-20 females. Some were borderline. So far, I have 1 clutch hatched, one in the incubator and one due July 11. Oh and at least one ovulating as we speak. I have a couple others I'm unsure of. Too little time for my reptiles sigh.

Yeah I will have to have you down sometime to check things out. Luckily we are breeding rats like no tomorrow so thankfully I don't have to buy them any more but still spend a fortune on the Mazuri diet for them. I need to find it cheaper than I am getting it at the feed store.
