Where to get a Scale?

eminart Jul 07, 2007 08:01 PM

I need a scale. I need something capable of weighing adult ball pythons, but accurate enough to also use for baby geckos and beardies.

Is it best to buy one of the "reptile" scales that are sold online like lllreptile? I know they have one for about $50 shipping. I'm just curious because there are tons of postal and lab scales for sale on ebay. Some of them go up to 50 pounds or something like 7000 grams (I think) and have an accuracy of -10grams. Is that accurate enough? I don't know jack about "grams". Are the "reptile" scales more accurate than that? I want one accurate enough to monitor my babies' health and growth.

Thanks

This is the type of scale I use with my beardie and eventually will use it for our python. www.myweigh.com is where i got it. http://myweigh.com/mediumscales_i300.html
is the url of the actual scale. it works great it comes with a container to weigh things with but it was too small for the beardie i use a rubbermade tub (smallish) to weigh him in.

hope this helps

I got mine at staples for 30 bucks goes up to 7000 grams. Works great. And I did not have to pay for shipping.

I think I'm about to order one from Ebay for about 32 bucks. It's a "myweigh" 7001 which is the same thing the online reptile stores are selling for a lot more. It's probably the same thing you got from staples.

Only problem with ebay is it tends to higher, if you get a good deal than go for it.

So far, it's the best deal I've found on this particular scale. It'll end up being nearly $35 with shipping and insurance.

There are some on Ebay that will weigh up to 10,000 grams that you can buy for less than $30. That's a buy it now price including shipping.

All the ones I saw like that were pretty inaccurate. Something like plus or minus 10 grams, which isn't much if you're dealing with bigger stuff, but for my baby lizards it just wouldn't work.

That must be a different scale you are looking at. The one I have is 2 grams between 0-2 lbs and 5 grams over 2 lbs. Good luck.

Hopefully I won't mess this up. The link should take you to the item on Ebay I'm referring to. This seller is great and includes an AC adapter with his scales. Some of the sellers charge extra for it. We have purchased a couple of these and have been very pleased with the scales and the service.

Maybe I should have looked around some more. I didn't see that one. :D I'm not complaining though. It's still over twenty dollars cheaper than the online reptile stores. I actually bought the one I'm getting from the same seller (oldwillknot).

Yep, that's who I got it from. I found that website, but then I found the same guy (or business) selling them on ebay for a better price.

Thanks for all the info everyone. My scale should be here next week sometime. :D
