Where to get a Scale?

eminart Jul 07, 2007 08:03 PM

I need a scale. I need something capable of weighing adult ball pythons, but accurate enough to also use for baby geckos and beardies.

Is it best to buy one of the "reptile" scales that are sold online like lllreptile? I know they have one for about $50 shipping. I'm just curious because there are tons of postal and lab scales for sale on ebay. Some of them go up to 50 pounds or something like 7000 grams (I think) and have an accuracy of -10grams. Is that accurate enough? I don't know jack about "grams". Are the "reptile" scales more accurate than that? I want one accurate enough to monitor my babies' health and growth.

Thanks

For the price I can't find a better scale than the one I have. It is a MyWeigh 70001DX and came from reptilebasics.com. It will weigh up to 7000g (15.4 lb.) in 1 gram increments (.1 oz.)

Baby beardies are like 3 grams and baby geckos are probably less so a scale that measured in .1 grams may be better but to get that you will generally lose gross capacity or pay much more. For dragons 1 gram increments are really fine. Anything higher (a postal scale generally weighs in 5 gram increments) is worthless. A real fat adult dragon could be 700 grams.

If you really want to be freaked out on scale choices go to scalesonline.com.

I was actually just now looking at the same scale you have on Ebay. I think I'm about to go ahead and buy one. It seems like the best scale out there without breaking the bank. I can get one for $35 shipped with insurance.
