Shedding question

Railrider1920 Jul 08, 2007 04:34 PM

Hi folks,
My female cremesicle has had bad sheds the last two sheds. Her last one came apart in pieces. I put her a tupperware container with some wet paper towels and it helped her get dir of her last shed. I moved the water dish over the UTH to give the tank some humidity, but I'm using a screen top, so that probably doesn't help much.

I have a 20 gal long tank split into two sections, one corn in either section. The male has had good sheds. The female has had good sheds too, but not the last two.

She looks like she is getting ready to shed again. Is there anything anyone could suggest for me to do to help make this one a full complete shed? I seem to remember something called "shed ease" at the pet store. Should I try something like this?

Thanks for any help offered.
Rob

cover half the top, put in a larger water dish and when it looks like she is about to shed try misting her daily.
these ideas might help.

what did you use to split your tank? Do you have any pics of your setup? Did you put a heat pad on the bottom in the center of the tank? I am thinking about doing the same thing!

Hi,
I finally got a few pictures and then forgot where the thread was. Sorry about that.

This is the PVC board that I use to separate the tank into two sides. I cut it to width and then cut a notch in it so it will rest against the plastic frame on the aquarium.

The blueish color is the glass, the black is the plastic frame around the tank and the red is the piece of PVC board and how it is cut. You might be able to get a small piece from a sign company. They might have some in the trash or you can buy a small piece from them.
HTH, Rob

I'll try them out. Hopefully she'll have a good shed this time around.

jskauf02, I'll try to get a picture posted for you. Not sure that I have a good one right now. Basically it's like this:
I cut a piece of PVC board (plastic sign board)to the width of the tank, front glass to the back glass. I cut the corners off a little to accommodate the silicone in the glass joint. I cut it about a 1/4" taller than the lip of the tank. I put it in the tank on a bit of an angle. I marked the board where the lip of the plastic from the tank hits the board and make a small cut there so that the lip holds it from moving up or down. Then take a piece of tape and secure the sides to the tank. The UTH is in the middle of the tank. It has worked out well.

When I see my guys go blue, I move the water onto the warm side(over the UTH) and just lay a trash bag over about 3/4 of the screen top. I have never had a bad shed since I started doing this.

That sounds like a great idea, I might try that. This Kisatchie has yet to shed since we got him in Hamburg a little over a month ago. My Florida King sheds a lot more often but she definitely grows faster of course.
