Largest Rat Snake?

SanClementeSnake Jul 09, 2007 12:10 AM

I've been researching ratsnake's and their care. However, I cannot decide which snake to purchase. One main trait that I really want is a large rat. I love a 7 ft. or longer colubrid, because of their body size. Also I would prefer one with interesting colors. Temperament is not big of an issue with me, I do enjoy a bit of a challenge. I was looking for a good CB specimen that won't break the bank; and won't give me too many problems with it's caring.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

Tiger Rat Snake (Spilotes pullatus),
Keeled Rat Snake(Ptyas Caranata}
Oriental Rat Snake (Ptyas mucosa)

All are said to get around 14 feet. The largest Tiger Rat I have seen is just over 10 feet. My gut feeling is that one of the Ptyas has the record. If you are refering to Elaphe you are going to top out around ten feet. Here is a 10 foot Spilotes.

Sighthunter: What is the price range on those three snakes?

I have considered the beauty snakes, but I would something a little different.

Spilotes range from $65 for wild caught to over $1000 for an all yellow. The Ptyas have just started to come into the US after a 20 year dry spell and are said to be very agressive. The only Ptyas I personaly know of are in Canada right now and would be expensive.
