Tank Size?

brak Aug 18, 2003 12:37 PM

I need opinions on tank size, care sheets to to have different opinions on this. When talking to breeders it seems I get feedback like "oh yeah, a ten gallon tank is plenty big for 2 leos, we keep some of our adults in little tupperware containers and they are fine". But many enthusiastic owners who don't breed will say that a ten gallon tank is only big enough for 1 and if I wanted 2 I would need a twenty gallon tank. What is your opinion?

i would go w/ a 20 gallon LONG... many breeders and DEFINATLY NOT ALL!!! will keep their leos in small enclosures because they have too many, and do not have enough money to buy tanks for them. so if you are keeping 2 leos, i would go with a 20 gallon... also, just remember, 2 MALE leos will fight, so get either one male and one female, or 2 females. in either of these choices, moniter their behavoir twords eachother to be sure one isnt getting bullied too bad. good luck and have fun

my opinion is that since breeders need to save space, then keeping their animals in those tank sizes is different than from an average pet owner. a pet owner has a responsibility to provide OPTIMUM care for their pets, not just satisfactory conditions. so basically, a 10 gallon is good for one leo, a 20gal long good for 2.

I highly recomend getting a twenty gallon long for 1 leo, you can keep two in there but no more. Actually all my leos have there own tank, all visions, lol, nooo there not spoiled ;-]

The lowest tank size I personally would go for an adult leo is 20 gallons. Breeders keep them in those small sizes because leos are adaptable and will breed even in tiny cages. If you want your adult leos to be as happy and healthy as possible then go for the biggest cage you can get.

I think two leos can live in a 10 gallon, but 20 is better.

I used to keep two leos in a 10 gallon (that's how I got them), and they were fine. I didn't see them digging at the glass, trying to get out. But then I moved them into a 20 gallon. This was much better, because it allowed me to place a bigger variety of hides in the tank, and my geckos use ALL of them. Plus, there was a big improvement in their behavior, and I can tell they're a lot more comfortable.

And another thing is that two leos would be living on top of their poop in a 10 gallon. Who wants that?

I would recomend a 20 gallon they seem to work better the larger size seems to prevent fighting with lots of hides.
