BUGS!!!!

UGH, just found mites in the quarantine room. Seems one of my latest acquisitions musta had some that survived the ititial preventative mite treatment. I was jsut thinking about releasing them all as I had not noticed anything wrong with the group. Now I'll have to go through intensive mite de-infestation.

Good news is I found this out BEFORE the arival of any of my new BRB's !! Looks like I'll be setting up another quarantine location for them.

Even better news is looks like the quarantine room has saved my collection yet again. Of course I'll have to watch closely but no mites have been spotted in the main room.

Dave,

Mites definitely rot! What also sucks though is finding some and then going through the intensive de-mite process - baths, enclosure cleaning, PAM, etc... and then finding out that the mites you have are not snake mites, but standard running mites who have decided to overrun the house and annoy everyone BUT the snakes. That's what happened to me last year. At least it gave me a push to do a deep cleaning of everything...

Lol, I agree! The snakes were the only ones that were not bothered by the mites. :/ We were completely overun. You could see them crawling up and down the windowsills etc... I was told it was just a seasonal thing and they would go away. And they did evenutally. We still find there dead little bodies around from time to time, but they have never come back (knock on wood).

Treated and cleaned all over the Q-room and have not seen a live one since. Have seen a few dead ones though

Will retreat in a few more days and should take care of that nasty little problem.

i hate mites big time i have had them twice once they just popped out of nowhere (i think it came in on a live rat one day) and the other time it was from a decently reputable breeder who sold me a hogg isalnd boa i go hmm i dont need to quarentine this one i trust the guy blah blah blah and well yeah MITES lol bot times got rid ofthem no prob but now that i got PAM oh yeah im ready IF somehow they sneak in again

rainbowsrus Jul 10, 2007 11:39 AM

Must be ever vigilant. Every time I've hed them, came in on new animals. I quarantine everything and has saved the collection from being infested three times now.
