High reds =)

atherisquamigera Jul 09, 2007 01:06 PM

you know what I want, a high red, I want one that is a real shocker. and not dark or muddy. BRIGHT CLEAN RED. what kinda prices am I looking at? (I don't know because the only ones I have seen that are what i am looking for are not for sale) and do you guys know anyone who does that, or does any1 have any breeding projects going to produce that?

like this guy: http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.php?photo=216382

or this peruvian: http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.php?photo=90314

p.s. rainbows-r-us i was interested in the anerys because I love their silver color, but it seems like it only looks silver in some lights, and more of a brown in others, which is it? (judging by your pictures)

both have nice lines, Dave has some very impressive snakes in the high red department, I am on a list from a certain someone gravid this year, I have a very high red female from Jeff already, she just gets better and better. I also have a nice male from Jeff. But I do not plan on having a large breeding group, so I will keep the male and female from Jeff and only get one more male from Dave, then that's it for BRB, I am also interested in a few other less kept epicrates that Jeff keeps, and have a wanting for a pair of Peruvians that Jeff keeps as well. IT'S NEVER ENOUGH LOL.

Peruvians are a deeper red in coloration with the thicker black markings as well, impressive snakes.

I would suggest emailing both Dave and Jeff. Dave should have high color animals this year - not sure how long his list is and how many he may holdback. I am not sure what Jeff will have, but he has a lot of BRB's and may have some high color babies.

The problem is that the high color animals get better with age, so it is very hard to tell what babies will improve with age vs. ones that get worse. Thus, it is kind a craps shoot on ending up with a high color adult. This also makes someone like Dave holdback more animals until they age a bit - Dave does not want to holdback one that turns into a normal and sell off the star of the litter.

I hope one of the BRB's that I should be getting this week makes it into the high red catagory - fingers crossed. The good news is that I should be getting a total of four more BRB's this week, so if the red is not what I wanting I will have others to cheer me up.

Brian has some really nice animals, and is very respected by the people here. You should be very happy with the animal you get from him.

hey, you usually post more than me, and i haven't seen your name (in the last day which is unusual for you), are you too cool for us now or something? anyway i noticed that you didn't read the postscript that i left on my post for you so i thought i would bring it to your attention. Yesterday was my wifes B-day so it ewas an all about her day. I did manage to look in on the forum a couple of times but no real time to respond.

Definately more of a brown with silver undertones as they grow (based on my vast experience of one), The one thing that has stayed and is oh so cool is the white crescents. You pull her out and it's always the same thing, clearly different than just a brown BRB.

Hey Jasmine, I should have some this year if all goes well. The real problem lies with figuring out which will end up that color. I've said it over and over, they do not all color up the same amount, or the same way. So guessing ultimate color of an individual snake is hard. Of course, the better looking the baby, the better looking the adult. Just not 100% that the best looking baby will end up being the best looking adult.

I expect to have some high colors at $150 and $175 and may have some extreme animals priced higher. Will have to wait till they get here to really decide.

sorry, but i already spent much more money than i can spare buying a peruvian and a high red from hummel. (wow! those guys are amazing) I can't wait to get them in. i mean look at this guy: this is the father of my brazilian. i just sent off my money today, so i have a while to wait. but i did pay top dollar for the reddest in the clutch so it should be good.
