Flex-watt should run at 100 or 110 degrees depending on the wattage and type. The warm side of a brb cage should be 81 degrees, so if your flexwatt is working ok you should still use a thermostat.

The big variable is the tempature of the room you will put the snake in.

Flexwatt has so little mass compared to the large surface area that if you place it out in the open the air will rapidly dissipate heat away from it so that it does not feel hot. Try placing it on a countertop with a thick book on top of it for ten minutes and then see if it feels hot. Sometimes if you are wiring it up yourself if you do not squeeze the terminals very tight they do not adequatly pierce the plastic material and do not make a good connection. At full power in a warm room flexwatt placed under a cage will heat up to around 110 degrees.

ok they said the 3 inch wide Flex Watt uses 6 watts per linear foot. is that good or no? i need to get one with a higher wattage? thank

I have some of the 3 inch wide 6 watt per foot Flexwatt under trays in one of my racks. At full power it gets the Sterilite boxes way too hot for BRBs. A surface will not feel really warm to the touch unless it is over 98.6 degrees.

Get some type of thermometer and place it between the container and the flexwatt. A decent thermometer is a must in keeping reptiles. Once you get a few reptiles the $30 and up heat guns is a great tool to have.
