http://www.tortoise.org/general/descare.html

pay particular attention to the part where it says "endangered" and "illegal to collect". do yourself a favor and obtain one legally through adoption.

What was i supposed to do leave her in the middle of the road to get killed. I have decided to take care of her and i'm trying to get a permit to make her legal.

It's like that in Florida with the Gopher torts, only you _can't_ get a permit- we don't have a nice program for adoptions like the western states do for the Desert torts. So the answer is, help her across in the direction she is going, making sure no cars hit her. If she lives in that area, she probably crosses the road all the time. Scary, but true. OTOH, she could be an escaped pet if she's in an urban area- then I guess you have to collect her and try to find the owner.

There are many, many desert torts in need of adoption.

the area I live is not somewhere that desert torts live naturaly so i asume she is a escaped pet but when I showed her to my friends who owns multiple desert torts she said that that tort has not been well taken care of. so we have been caring for her.

She might be microchipped- a vet could check.
