Yeah, I tried using a similar method found in one of my reptile books. I found the heater took too long to heat the water and did not heat it evenly. In the end I found better solutions.

Yes I have tried it a couple of times. The first was years ago when I was keeping a large colony of Leopard Geckos and it work great for that application. Then I tried it again when I started with Balls, not a good out come. I could not regulate the heat well, the condensation was terrible and I lost my first 2 clutches because of that setup, so I quickly went the dry method and managed to save the rest of my clutches!
I used a similar set-up in a big plastic bin when I was breeding Bearded Dragons. I hatched out 95% of the eggs of 6 clutches. I had no problems with this setup. Its a cheap way of incubating. I would not however, use this setup for expensive ball morphs, but for normals I wouldn't have an issue.
