Connecting with other BRB lovers!

BRB_Russ Jul 10, 2007 09:22 AM

So i was at home like 3 days ago and my roomate brings a girl over, her name is Rachelle(sp) and we get talking and she notices my snake tanks (they are in the living room) She goes "oh yea Bryce told me you guys have snakes, thats so cool!" so i ask oh yea i do, do you own any snakes, she says "yea just one" So me being the ever pessimist i say "what a ball python?" she goes "no, it is a Brazillian Rainbow boa" !!!! immediatly i get exited of course!!! I immediatly start to take mine out of its tank and show it off, she is all exited and ends up holding the snake for a half hour or more wandering arround my house enjoying the awsomeness of the BRB, i of course show her my CRB and Salmon guyana etc. She says she usually takes her BRB everywhere with her but she didnt know what she was going to do tonight so she didnt want it with her.

the next night she shows up again and this time she brought her BRB, Its just a little guy, looks like what mine looked like last year. Aparently when she has it out, she has a snake bag in her purse that it goes in. But she usually keeps it in her sports Bra (for warmth?) and it peeks its little head out the top of her bra/shirt. She says she takes it everywhere and it really freaks people out when they are talking to her and a BRB pokes out her shirt to say hi.

Over all it was a lot of fun hanging out with another Rainbow Boa lover but im kicking myself for not getting some pics of her snake etc.

Oh well.

whee! that's awesome! whenever i tell people i have a brb they always say "oh, my friend had a boa back in high school." I can never explain to people the difference between a red-tail and a rainbow, they just say "well, they're both boas, so what if one is a little different color" sheesh! I might as well have a corn snake for all they understand it. I would just be bouncing up and down if i had met someone else with a rainbow. (or even someone who knows what a rainbow is) when people actually see my snakes they almost always say "oh look, a corn snake." IT'S NOT A CORN SNAKE! (sorry i get worked up sometimes.) i mean does that look like a corn snake

Yeah, when some people find out I have snakes, they're horrified. It turns out snakes are the number-one animal people are afraid of---one friend of mine is almost paralyzed by fear of snakes (even though she's never had much experience with them; no traumatic episode in her past)!

I'm a member of the Minnesota Herpetological Society and I'd recommend if you want to connect with other snake (and reptile) lovers in your area to find out if you have a similar organization near you (you probably do). I found out about the MHS when I went to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.

MHS members always display their animals there and answer people's questions. Now I also volunteer out there every summer; it's really fun to help people learn about snakes and even overcome their fear of the animals---and the Ren Fest is a big fundraiser for our organization. We also do "hands-on" appearances around the Twin Cities in parades, at events, corporate picnics, schools, etc. (We're in high demand.) One of our goals is to help people come to appreciate reptiles and amphibians.

I'm really not chauvinistic and I hope I don't come off that way but honsetly, it doesn't get much sexier than a woman who's into snakes. Theonly thing sexier would be if she carried it around in her sports bra!

Cool story. Tell her to come check out the madness that is our forum (I promise to behave).

I mentioned the forum to her and she said she didnt post on it or read it. Perhaps ill press the point if she comes over again. (If my Roomate invites her over)

I'd have to agree with Mike. And it really does seem to be a snake that women like. Many of my customers are women.

And I'll never promise to behave!!!
