Why are FEMALES more MOODY???

CFlowers Jul 10, 2007 02:09 PM

A post from below made me wonder... because my male is a sweetheart and my female is a rip... the female is the stillwater hypo outcrossed to Texas Bull (the snake in my hand) me male is the other... (just a stillwater hypo) they are about a year and ahalf, and other people are saying the same thing about females being more grumpy. (kinda like with humans) LMAO So does anyone think they know why that is?
God Bless

I have also noticed this trend. My only two pyscho pits are females, but I should mention that I have two other females that are very tame.

I don't recall back from when I had a bunch of WC in the 80s, but I do recall that my meanest wild caught was a male - until one day he suddenly became extremely docile. I had gotten in a fight with my mom (teenager) and I took him with me on a walk for about an hour (snakes are and always have been emotionally therapeutic to me) - after that, he never bit again.

My current WC female is so docile she could be a corn snake - seriously. I'm hoping it is genetic and that her offspring will have a docile tendency.

First up i got to say nice snakes, that F is an awesome lookin, snake no doubt.

I've found over the years that its normally down to the individual animal more than sex.
For example i have a young jani F thats as tame as any cornsnake, yet the other 6 or so jani i have are all highly'jumpy'and do bite readily.Of all the albino/hypo/normal annectans i hatched (100's)one stripey/aberrant M is still the crazest to this day and never lost that hatchling aggressive feistiness.
Interestingly i have a deppei deppei that always bites my younger bro but has never ever even tryed to bite me!!
Maybe F's can be prone to more aggression naturally during certain times in the season i.e mating, pregnancy and egg laying (inc.poss postlaying stress).

Funny, I've noticed the OPPOSITE. My females are almost all tame and my males are jumpy. I recently received a new female pine, and, well, she is pretty moody. Always rattling and hissing. The male gets jumpy when touched, but my other female is as tame as a house cat.

I too have experienced the psycho female syndrome (w/ snakes and humans). My Gophers from Lancaster (both females)are quite the opposite of each other. My East Lancaster female is a sweetheart. You wouldn't believe she's WC the way she interacts w/ us (wife, daughter & me). My West Lancaster female is a different story, though she has gotten alot better. I gave her to my wife for Christmas. She would hiss & strike @ me and my daughter, but never @ my wife. Guess the Pit females are like human females in the sense that the further west you go the more psycho they become.
