rat breeding

Buggzter Jul 10, 2007 02:49 PM

I want to start breeding rats for my snakes, but I want to know how many tubs I'll need for them. How many small/med/large rats can be in each of the plastic cement-mixing tubs normally used?

As for the number of females, could 1:3 work in one tub and keep the pinks in with them? Could I keep ALL the babies in until they are weaned? Or should the babies be separated to a nurse-mother?

How old should the rats be before you start breeding them? And how long before you bring in new breeding stock and feed the others out?

Thanks a ton!

i have up to 1.5 in my tubs leaving the babies in until weaning is no problem you will need a growing off pen if you don't feed off all of them just remember the more in a tub the more often you have to clean it.gene
