Lighting question(nothing to do with UVA/UVB!)

nobodysbusiness Aug 18, 2003 02:08 PM

i have my ackies and timor set up with incandescents at one end for basking and a flourescent at the other for general lighting. my question is, are the fluorescent bulbs necessary, or am i only assuming the monitors appreciate a well lit cage? Just wanting some feedback on how others have their setup.

I personally think they just like light.I used one of those expensive UV hot bulbs(Zoomed $50 active Uv sun)or something like that.I wanted to see if better UV might make a change in them. They looked better under the light itself and I think it raised the cage temps up 5 degrees or so,but no difference what so ever in growth or activity. The fluorescent bulbs just add a little light in my humble opinion

I personally use a bank of incandescents at one end of the cage or sometimes one bulb depending on the size of the monitor and enclosure. Mine seem to do ok.

Here is an example

Full spectrum flo. lights are great over monitors....
and when used in conjuntion with a UV mercury vapor bulb (as well as a heat lamp, if needed), one should get optimum results.

The opinion UV is not benificial to monitors is false.

Best of luck.
