incubation

teaspoon Jul 10, 2007 05:23 PM

I found two black eastern hognose snakes a few weeks ago and they both laid eggs. there were 53 eggs, but I threw out 3 cause they were slugs.
for incubation, is 77 degrees ok? what should humidity be?
any info is appriciated!
oh, and half of the eggs, from both females, are really small, are they still good, or infertile?

78-82 degrees with 80-90 percent humidity in vermiculite or perlite has been successful with easterns.

wow that's a lot of babies, what are you gonna do with them?re-release any?sell 'em all for financial profit?keep them all?(that's a lotta toads to attain!lol)......also-was what you did legal-i.e. were these taken from anyplace they are protected?(state park, or national park,etc...what about your state reptile laws?any idea?....but just so you don't think i'm a total ball buster-i would aim for a few degrees higher, say 80-83 and re:your incubation medium, better to err on the side of caution (dryness),you can always mist them occasionally if they appear to need more moisture.too much moisture at jump street and that's much worse........btw here's an old, awful pic of a gorgeous dark hog i found 2-3 years ago, photo'd and released
