waiting for the snakes though. Trey
I dont like how they portayed red tails as viscious and were so afraid to handle them and pinned them down head first so they would not get bit. I know they have to dramatize it for tv but I was hoping it would be more educational. Bad PR from something that could have been positive. The Snake farm is actually nice though, went there last year. Not sure of the route the new owners will take it but hopefully it will still be nice.... Jon

The new owner seemed genuinely scared of the red-tails. I went back to watching motocross on Speed after watching that little segment. Seemed like a guy with some money buying something he shouldn't have bought.
All things considered, they look like nice people that take good care of their animals. I didn't expect the high end ball and retic morphs at a zoo type business. It makes me think that they are really into snakes.
I didn't like the fact they had to wrestle the snakes, and the red tails that was over drama, i wouldn't want to get bit and mike probably had a fear of snakes as it was. Well he got musked for us! LOL

They had a bad approach on Boa's and really no great info in general for snake's in a positive way at ALL!! very disappointing in my opinion!

It was very stupid to hear that they allow people to throw coins at the rattlesnakes so they can just hear them rattle!??? Very dumb thing for them to allow with the public 8( overall show pretty much gives snakes in general a BAD REP.....

JAKE
Honestly unless you have been there and have seen the place in person and seen all of the wonderful snakes and animals that they do have on display for those who are not fortunate enough to go and see them in there natural habitat, take it easy. Not only owning a Corporation with Eric and Dara for the past ten years I know first hand that everything potrayed on that show was just that, for the show. Trust me the behind the scenes actions are far different than what has to be done when the cameras are rolling to make onto the Discovery Channel.
Thanks,
Wyatt
that im sure the place is a fine and well set up and there are wonderful high dollar animal's there. I just don't like how they had to air on national TV! WHY didn't they show it the way you explained it to be.
Regards,
Jake
the snake show i so great but i dont like the way they just showed the agression of the animal they had some beautiful calm snakes
i ment farm nnot show lol
show not an educational channel program. Most everything they did was to sensationalize the show. If the job doesn't appear to be dirty and a bit dangerous people wouldn't watch it. Animal Planet Shows in some cases aren't too much different. Its meant to be entertainment for the average person NOT a program for herpers. Personally I thought the snakes looked great. Don't be too harsh because it didn't satisfy our needs. It wasn't meant to do that. Thanks....TC
yeah, that's great. Don't worry guys, its just a T.V. show! Fantastic.
OK, so I know, and YOU know, and anybody reading this OUGHT to know that the danger level in keeping and handling a healthy, well-kept, CB Red Tail is about on par with handling your DOG, but the problem with people and snakes isn't what WE know, its what they DON'T know. And having a TV show sensationalize the "danger" of snakes ISN'T HELPING. PERIOD. Because people are largely ignorant of reptiles (ESPECIALLY snakes, and of them, ESPECIALLY boids), because people are largely afraid of what they're ignorant of, and because people are inclined to believe whatever tells them their fears are legitimate, false information about snakes is NOT good. Why? Because then people are inclined to believe it, true or not. THEN they hear that Joe Herper has a red tail boa next door, and then they complain to their legislature. Then the legislature passes a law or forces Joe Herper to have the red tail evacuate the premises. Or have you not noticed the increasing amount of anti-pet legislation going around?
Don't worry, though. Its just a TV show.

Lol I know your right its just a show to entertain .
I just could not beleive that they would remove Pythons from a cage and without any cleaning and disinfecting or changing water, they would introduce Boas into the cage. And...they treated the Boas like they were wild caught. My Boas certainly do not have to be grabbed behind the head and man-handled the way those on the show were.
I was laughing at the overly dramatic way they moved the boas as well. The only thing I can think of that they might have done it that way is because both animals were about to shed (their eyes were cloudy). So when showing Mike Rowe how to do it, they figured they'd do it the 'safe' way, since they might be grumpy, and obviously he was a little nervous (moreso around snakes than alligators?? and on the show prior, he was willing to get bitten by a bloodworm? eeeuuch!).
The retics were handled pretty well given that they are fiestier, and at least the keeper guy did clear up the difference between boa/python bites and venomous bites. And, I have never seen snakes larger than a boa hooked and moved before, that was interesting. Damn, that's a big hook.
I just shook my head over the boas though. Even after they were grabbed, you could tell the boas were pretty calm... just like "oh, hey, time to move? yawwn, ok." And I thought the same thing about the water - come on, drain it and refill it at least! Hopefully they went back and recleaned after the cameras left, it seemed to me like they were trying to get as much done for the cameras as possible, and alligator poo and rattlesnake poo is more exciting than python and boa poo, apparently.
The scariest part of the show was when the cameraman broke a glass cage door... heh. I do love the show in general.

I was watching the show last night, and regardless of t.v. sensationalizing things, I was actually a bit surprised with how they packed their enclosures. How many rattlers were in that cage? Not to mention they pulled out at least 6 snappers in the already overcrowded(in my opinion) gator pen!

I admit I was disappointed with the croc/alligator/turtle pen, each animal can inflict serous damage on each other why keep them in the same pen? Now they did say they just got ownership and it will take them two years to get to the farm where they liked it to be.

Right not to mention the turtles you never see in that enclosure . The old owner seemed to just shove animals into the enclosure .
Cleaning those alligators/crocs like that in time is an accident waiting to happen. They need some type drain or a flat pump (my friend has one for his turtle pond) than just spray clean it when all the water is out no need to move or bother the animals
why do you think they didn't clean the enclosure? I only watched it the one time, so maybe there was something that gave it away that they didn't, but other than the fact that they didn't show it, what makes you think they didn't clean it between adding the new snakes? Just because they didn't show it doesn't mean they didn't do it. After all, they only have an hour to show what those people do all day long.
But, maybe I missed something and they didn't clean the cage.
My big question was, if they were planning on using that huge enclosure for those two boas (which don't need a room-size enclosure), what are they putting the three huge pythons in?
I thought that overall it looked like the place was your average run of the mill reptile zoo.
personally, I thought the show was great and hilarious!! It was OBVIOUS that the guys helping Mike were messing with him on purpose, and I thought it was fun to watch!! And how do you know they didn't clean the cage in between the retics and the boas??? Just because they didn't waste time showing that, doesn't mean they didn't clean! If you want to watch an educational show on wildlife, don't watch Dirty Jobs! If you are worried that this show reinforces people fears of snakes instead of informing people, remember that if people watch shows like this to LEARN about FACTS about things, then there really isn't any help for them anyways! This show is not the proper platform to teach people. The only thing that would of happened if they tried to be "educational" would of been a lot of people would of changed the channel!

There is still no need to protray them as dangerous. Sure it is only entertainment, except there is no real need to emphasize false beliefs. They did not really over-dramatize most of the other episodes regarding animals.
