How big before superworms are ok?

longhorn627 Jul 10, 2007 06:48 PM

I was just wondering how old/large a beardie should be before I introduce superworms to him? I just got a whole mess of em and am thinking it would be ok to give him the ones that are freshly molten/soft and white, but want to hear yall's opnions first.

I regularly feed superworms to my adults. But, I think 11 inches is a little small. I don't think superworms have a particularly hard outside shell but they do bite and their heads are difficult to digest. I'd wait till at least 250 grams, but I am very conservative on food choice and size compared to others so keep that in mind.

I don't feed superworms anymore. dragons don't even digest them that well....you can see the worms in their poop. also i've had a dragon vomit up some worms from injesting them too fast.

you can feed supers to dragons, i just wouldn't do it that often...ie not a staple food.

a 11" bearded dragon can handle a few newly molted but small superworms. I have fed superworms to my dragon on and off since she was about that size and never had any problems. I still feed her some now and again for variety with her salads now.

I have fed my first bearded dragon (which I had to sell years ago...she would be 5-6 years old now...really wished my cousin called me when he didn't want to keep her anymore..at that time I would have been able to buy her back..had to sell because I was moving to another city and had to stay with friends for a couple months till I found my own place). Anyway, I never noticed undigested superworms in my dragon's poops...I could see the exoskeletons which are not digested which is normal.

Never had a dragon puke them back up...though I had one do that with silkworms but I am quite sure it was because I fed her way too many (I had left a bunch as I was going away for the weekend and thought she would just eat her fill and leave the rest, but I guess she wolfed them all down).
