Let me give you a bit of advice. Croc monitors are SWEETHEARTS. Biting out of being mean or nasty is not whats going to happen to you. Unless your two bricks shy of a load.

In the vast majority of cases, you get bit thru trust. You trusted the animal and the animals trusted you. THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEMS OCCUR.

Holding a Croc monitor like your doing is like holding a loaded pistol. Only your not the one with the finger on the trigger. A dumb lizard has its finger on the trigger. Now I say dumb lizard, because thats what your going to say when it reaches over and bites(pulls the trigger) the beanwater(in this case blood) out of you. Your going to say, STUPID M$*%F($(^. I assume you would not be talking about yourself. hahahahahahahaha but you could be.

Now consider, "play" bites from croc monitors, play bites are bites not in defense or anger, ARE VERY SERIOUS.

Back to the point, you holding them like that is HABIT forming. And you will want to hold them when they grow larger. Once they reach about four feet, it will be very very soon if you take any kind of decent care, you will we risking disfiguring events. Now I see from your tats, that thats fine with you. And its fine with me. But, your also risking reconstructive surgery. You know, to make your parts WORK again.

My guess is, experience is best served before something bad happens. So let me explain, I use to keep and breed croc monitors. I understand how nice they are. Even how sweet they are. But I got rid of them because(one reason) is they are like juggling a 357 mag. Instead I chose to keep Lacies, more of a 22mag for males and 22 short for females.

After many years of keeping lacies, I just got my first real bite(a play bite) and while it was great fun and it was. I felt both stupid and smart. Stupid that I let this 5 1/2 foot male bite my finger, and smart that I made a real decision to keep 22 mags instead of 357mags. You see, if it would have been a croc monitor, and everything went exactly the same. I would have been in deep doodoo. As it was, I spend some quality time with my grandson. He went with me and watched my finger get sewed up. I was lucky(again) only five stitches, and less then 30 bucks spend(co-pay). Oh yea, that was two days ago. So I ask, ARE YOU FEELING LUCKY MISTER. I ask that, because your going to need it.

As for me, I will take a few more precautions and test my luck again.

Now for the REAL PROBLEM. I really don't care if you lose your hand or your life. Those are yours to loose. I think its great if you loose them doing something you love. But, do not show it here on a public forum. Showing yourself holding croc monitors is STUPID of you. Do it in private. Its not against the law, but it will be if people like you keep showing this stuff on a public forum. Oh and when your luck runs out, be man enough to again not show the law makers what happens when we do stupid stuff to have fun(we should be allowed to harm ourselves) Keep it to yourself.

Stuntmen can do stupid dangerous stuff, racecar drivers can do kill and toast themselves, motorcycle fans can be the fender in fender benders. But they will outlaw a lizard that at worse falls off a few fingers or use of a hand. So keep it to yourself. Cheers

You are Right Again Frank! worse bite in the last 40 yrs came from ann adult Croc Monitor I thought was tame enough to move bare handed, that was my mistake and it cost me a little more than $35 copay! Besides blood and some tissue I lost a week of work as well! Crocs are wonderful animals but demand allot of respect! Big Jim

Thanks for your thoughts on crocs Frank their definetly not falling on deaf ears and i agree with just about everything you had to say (except for the tattoo comment, HAHAHAHAA)I'm definetly not new to the monitor world and i know the damage these magnificent animals can inflict. I've seen it first hand at a freinds shop out here in SoCal. A seven foot croc grabbed him by his tricep when he reached in to get the water bowl out of its enclosure, before that the croc never showed any type of agression guess he was having a bad day. Anyway i know that being abe to handle my croc like this aint gonna last too much longer. So i gotta enjoy it while i can.
Best to you,Chris

Crocs are great and are my favorite monitor. I have three, had four, and wouldn't mind a whole lot more (hey, that rhymed). Awesome dinosours. I have a large walk-in enlcosure and feeding time is basically like swimming with a room full of barricudas - now that's fun! About six months ago I was just leaing into the cage and one of my large males was checking me out closely at eye level. I knew he was hungry
Anyway he decided to lunge a bit and try to take a taste of my shoulder. But human reflexed are pretty good, at least in this instance. He left my shirt shredded and my heart pumping pretty good. Now that's some fun stuff. Enjoy that great, great monitor. His temperament should remain as good as it is now.

Come on Mike(hi how ya doing, miss you) Your being a oxi-moron. Its not the temperment that gets you in trouble. At least not a bad temperment. You should know to perpare for that. Its the good temperment that gets you all full of fishing wire stitches.

I know why that croc did not go for your head, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Whoops.

I know your man enough to not complain after you lose half your parts, but is your wife???? I guess it depends if those parts have a real value. hahahahahahahaha

You should come down here, I can take you out and get you all dead and tore up. Cheers
