I mentioned a few weeks ago that I thought my blood may have had a fecal impaction since he had not defecated in 5 months (the entire time I've had him).
After several at home treatments, including baths and injecting FT rats with mineral oil, I took him to my herp vet today.
They gave him an enema.
Turns out he had a urate impaction ... the oldest urates in him were hard as a rock and preventing everything from coming out. The vet suggested that the impaction may have begun before I got him due to a lack of humidity in his previous enclosure.
Before the enema he weighd 1.41 KG. The enema brought out an immense pile of urates, and an even more immense pile of poo. After the enema he weighed 1.19 KG, for a loss of 220 grams, or 7.76 Oz (just shy of half a pound). Also, 220 grams is 15.6% of his initial body weight. If I were to lose that in 1 shot it would be about 30 pounds!
She said the most likely cause is rooted in a lack of humidity, so, while I believe my setup is fine, I have taken steps to improve it. She also mentioned its a possibility that he has failing kidneys, but deemed that unlikely since he eats, digests and creates urates just fine. Seems he was just plugged up.
