R.I.P. Blue

yensen Jul 11, 2007 10:44 PM

Today i came home after a short vacation. Blue's tank needed a cleaning and so i decided to change the substrate. I took him out for a minute and put him in a drawer where i often keep him when i have to clean his tank. The cat was in the room and since I had been on vacation I decided to let him stay in the room. I closed the drawer to what i thought would be enough to keep the cat out and leave air for Blue. I left to go to the garage to get the sand and when I came back I heard a horrible hissing noise. I saw that it was Blue and that he was bleeding out his eye from a cat scratch. I felt horrible as he was so scared and there was nothing I could do about it. He had lost a lot of blood. I took him down to the vet where he was euthanized. It was awful as I could see the life go out of him. I will miss him greatly and I feel horrible that it was my fault. Im sorry most of all that he had to go through a lot of pain.

I'll miss you Blue.

-Matt

Sorry to hear of your loss!, we learned a hard lesson with a dog and iguana, Our reptile rooms are off limits to our cats and dog.

I'm so sorry Matt....

That's really sad...

He must have really loved you, though.

By the way, Blue is a very beautiful name for a Leopard Gecko. I think that he lived a really good life, and that he had an awesome owner.

R.I.P., Blue, I will never forget you...

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I always used to kick the cat out of my room when I did something with Blue. He usually just lies there and watches crickets hop around. When i closed the drawer i closed it very near to the edge and I think the cat pawed it open a bit to get at Blue. (The cat is quite smart and has opened doors before). I named Blue after the ridge of Blue that ran over his eyes. I knew that when I bought a pet that he would die eventually but I never imagined like this. It's especially hard as since I was a child I had loved animals and I got Blue in Grade 4. Once again thanks for the kind words.

Wow...blue ridges over his eyes? That's really beautiful. Poor guy...how long did you have him for?

yensen Jul 15, 2007 04:23 PM

I got him in fourth grade when he was a baby. He was about 8 or 9.
