I guess that depends where you live. I find it unlikely that a Petsmart would take a python that "someone found in their yard" and then invest money by paying a vet to stitch it up.

It seems more likely the snake was injured due to faulty care in the store and that's why they had to stitch it up.

they can’t sell it cause it was found in the wild

That's ridiculous as well. MOST of the stuff they sell is found in the wild!
They may not find it themselves, but they buy from wholesalers who primarily sell wild caught stuff.
Even their "captive born" Ball Pythons aren't really captive born.

he just started eating crickets cause he is still to small for small pinkies

No python species will eat crickets, even as babies. Furthermore, no python species are too small as babies to eat pinkies. Even hatchlings of the smallest species (Childrens/Spotted Pythons) readily eat mouse pinkies and even fuzzies right after their first shed. The only other pythons that have smaller babies (Anthill Pythons) aren't kept in captivity anywhere outside of Australia.

I don’t know what kind of Python it is

Clearly they don't either. It isn't a python, these people are idiots.

I would stay well away from this place and animal. If you are concerned about the snake's well being, then take it, identify it correctly and see what you can do to care for it.

If you can take a photo of it and post it on the "What Kind of Snake" forum, someone will at least tell you what kind of snake it is.

But if you do take it, don't listen to any more BS from these guys at this Petsmart. They have clearly established they have no idea what they are doing/talking about.

Remember, all it takes to get a job at a place like that is the ability to fill out an application. Most of the people there don't know a damn thing about pets, particularly reptiles.

just make sure you know what kind of python it is before you get it

strict quarentine for 6 months

have it checked out by a vet

to my knowledge no pythons are small enough at birth to eat a cricket.

get a picture and someone here can identify it
