hiding

gimptafied Jul 12, 2007 12:38 AM

My mali just recently grew out of his little cave and needed something bigger to stuff himself in. I've looked online and at local pet stores but have yet to find something that he'd feel secure in. What do you guys use?

I promised Toast I wouldn't show anyone this but it's too cute.

I like to use the bottom part of clay pots. No clue what they are called but they are cheap, about 1 1/2 inches high and easy to dremel out an opening. They have tons of sizes and mine love them!

Mostly I just make my own out of slate and other stone. If you want a commercial hide, the only one I've found that is at all workable is a Pet-Tech Mesa Cave. They're low and flat, unlike most commercial hides, so they work in a pinch.

i use two bricks(low profile) with a 12'x12' slate attached for the roof.sometimes i bury the whole thing for them to dig out. see my post "pretty,pretty.."to see dhaki's old and since upgraded version -see my post "big egyptian" to see a natural version. my personal favorite but i really don't use it until they are about a year old.

We've had really good success with our snakes & lizards using terracotta saucers. They've a low profile, retain warmth & clean easily. The only pain is is cutting an entrance but, a bench grinder of a hscksaw will do the job. Mostly, I like the low profile which most reptiles prefer.
Regards,
Dan.

I love those terra cotta saucers! I've learned with a little practice one swift smack with a hammer knocks out the perfect little entrance... And if you mess up, they're cheap to replace

Hmmmmm.... Sounds like the "whackem" method might be more convenient & faster that the grind/cut approach! We'll try it!!
Thanks!!

I user flexible sewer piping made for RV's that connects to a tupperware that I cut a hole into. The girls love it!

Thanks guys! I live in an apartment so I'm limited on tools but a hammer should be easy enough to get.
