Ball Belly Burn

konekoraar Jul 12, 2007 02:04 PM

My pastel ball, bowser, burned a bit of his belly on a under tank heater when he went under the substrate and was sitting directly on the glass. I have taken the heater away and soaked him in a bath for about 5 min. It is mild (slight discoloration, kind of pink) but I'm not exactly sure what I should do so it heals properly. Any info will be wonderful, thanks.

Are you sure it's a burn? Their bellies turn pink before they go blue to shed too.

You need to get that heat pad hooked up to a thermostat -- it will control it and prevent it from being hot enough to burn your snake, even if it sits on the glass.

You should post a pic. If the belly is an overall pinkish hue, I would agree with Jen (probably a shed cycle), but if it looks like a burn, it may actually be belly rot as well.

I tried to get a picture but he is a brat, also you couldn't see any difference in the picture. The pink is not all over just about 3 inches on the body starting at the base of the tail. He also just shed last night and the pink is still there but now accompanied by some blood spots. I'm going to completely clean the cage and put neosporin on it like the other guy said.

My camra isn't the best so I couldn't show the whole belly but i was able to get a picture of the worst spot on him. There are two other areas in the burn with blood spots but they are half the size of this.

dude
just recently went through your situation, but from the sound of
it , my ball was in much worst condition. he's now totally healed, but he does have lots of black scar tissue. get your hands on some neosporin. make sure the cage is spotless, newspaper substrate is perfect in this situation. coat the affected area in neosporin twice a day for ten days. i didn't feed my ball for the entire time i was treating him. clean the water bowl out every day , you don't want your snake ingesting any topical ointment (i don't know if it will do any harm , but why chance it).you'll find it will probably go into shed within a week or two.
let us know how it looks in 7-10 days.
good luck , ck
