Rack Recommendations

tristan Jul 12, 2007 03:46 PM

Hi Everyone,

Can someone recommend a producer of racks for ball pythons? I have hatchlings and adults.

I consider price and quality important. Please list your favorites and why. I would like to gather opinions/reviews before I purchase one, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Tristan

I'm a loyal AP customer. They're priced right, good quality, nothing to complain about whatsoever. If it ain't broke, no need to fix it. They have sizes that are perfect for hatchlings and adults. I actually need to order one of each tomorrow, myself.

Thanks everyone for their input, I truly appreciate it. I see that everyone has their own preferences and I looked at the websites for each rack that was recommended. Which leads me to my next question......

How "comfortable" should a rack be? This is what I have and what they're housed in:

1. I currently have two larger females (over 2200g) in sterilite tubs that are 34 X 15.5 X 5.5 (41 qts.). I feel that they are comfortable enough in this size of tub.

2. 2 males and 1 female (all about 1000g) each housed in a 23 X 6 X 6 (32 qts.) sterilite. I feel they are also housed comfortably.

I'm trying to decide whether to get a rack that holds 32 qt. tubs or one which holds 41 qt. tubs for my adults. I also plan on acquiring more large females in the near future.

For those of you with larger females/males, do you keep them in 41 qt. tubs or 32 qt. tubs? (I would imagine the 41 qt.)

Thanks, Tristan

I use AP racks like Ryan, and I keep all of my adults in 41qt Sterilites beginning when they hit 1000g.

i have animal plastics and let me tell you they are a great company and stand behind there product. my only regret was that i bought the ap 1756 rack which holds the 32qt and i should have purchased the one they ave thats able to hold both 32qt and 16qt for smaller balls. other than that i have 4 balls each over or about 1000 grams and they look like they can live out there lives in that size tub even when they hopefully double in weighand some more size. good luck!

I'm using Vision racks and really like them - the quality is great, they work great and the price can't be beat! As a bonus if you don't have a huge collection you can fit a variety of different sized tubs in the same rack with just a little adjustment to the levels - that way you don't have to buy a separate rack for your babies and another for your juvies and another for your adults.

With Vision, do you have to use their tubs, or do others fit as perfectly?

If you're referring to the CB70 rack, I highly recommmend the Vision tubs. I am using both the Iris and Vision tubs and the Visions are far superior.

I believe that the racks were designed to fit the two most popular tub sized the (cb-70 and the 32 qt. sterilite) but any tub with the same foot print could be used some minor adjustments may need to be made to the spacers for height tho.

I'm using a combo of cb 70s, 32 qt and the vision versions of these as well as the vision hatchling tubs in the CB 70 Ball Rack. They all fit the rack - but the vision tubs are much higher quality and slide a bit better - eventually I'll switch over entirely to the vision tubs - but since I'm on a budget I'm only able to do a few tubs at a time.

I use Vision Rack for my adults and they work great.

I also use Reptile Basic for hatchling and so far they are working awesome, they are new and just picked up 4- 16 box shoe box rack, so I have to see how they hold up for the winter. But for the price and how they are made they are great.

Good luck and hope this helps.
Also good luck with your breeding or hatchings.

I use Reptile Basics and wouldn't change. I have used Vision and was not particularly impressed with the unit I received. The fit of the tubs was poor and they tended to "float" around and were not escape proof. It took some "finessing" and making some latches/stops to make it functional. Maybe I just got a bad one but it was discouraging.

Reptile Basics racks have a good fit (especially the STC410 and hatchling racks) and hold temperatures well.

Bought one a couple months back and I wonder why I didn't buy it earlier. Cheaper than FB and from what I have heard from other breeders ARS is a lot better. They are more expensive than Vision but you can't sacrifice quality and I wasn't to impressed with visions.
