IT JUST WON'T END

found MORE ticks on my wc's. These 3 have been in my possession since the fall, were checked for the aforementiond, quarantined and all yada yada yada (I did remove ticks found initially).

I then posted a few weeks back about finding more ticks, which were removed, cages cleaned.

Then just recently i found a few more extremely small ticks on them. (SIGH)

Is it possible they laid eggs or something...because it just seems impossible that we could have missed them with how thorough we checked the snakes after quarantining and moving to new rack the first time around...let alone the second.

(and they would be adult ticks by now?)

who knows, i have thus since cleaned their racks AGAIN and treated with reptile relief (proventamite is on its way).

sigh

needed to vent

i am sorry you are going through that. There are some really really small ticks. The size of a pinhead. You wont see them till they have enough blood in them. Use the provent a mite. i hope that helps.

I have personally used Reptile Relief and it just never worked. I don't know what its problem is but it just doesn't get the job done for me. I have Provent-a-Mite and have not been dissatisfied and it has always worked. When I need to use it, which is almost never because it works so well, it kills them instantly. Right when you get it, read the directions and get ready to go kick some "tick-butt."

Don't buy WC~ that may be the answer.......

Get this.....

I bought some WC subadults in OCT 2003~ treated, quarintined.....the whole ordeal. Didn't see another tick. 3 YEARS late (yes~ 3 YEARS) in the summer of 06' one of those girls dropped a clutch of eggs for me......covered with ticks!!! I freaked and treated EVERYTHING (I have a rather large collection~ it was a lot of work). Never saw another tick ANYWHERE (Knocking wood now). Only on those eggs out of the 3 YEAR LTC female.

I had the same experience with a CB female I have many years ago. I had read Phillip DeVosjollies, I'm sure that's not how it's spelled, book and it mentioned and had pics of this happening in some females. I'm sorry but for the life of me I don't remember a reason for this happening. It only happened that one time with me.

interesting~ thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one it ever happened to. When it happened I freaked and didn't take any pics or anything~ just started cleaning everything and trying to figure out how they got in my house. I didn't have any new animals, I'd not seen a tick in 3 years since I bought the WCs, my cats and dogs did not have ticks. I cleaned EVERY tub and snake in the collection, bought an entire box of Provent-a-mite and treated all the tubs, the racks, the room the racks where in, kept all the snakes on treated newspaper substrate for three months.......never saw another tick (knock wood) and hope not too!

That sounds like a nightmare. these things don't like spread to people do they? (alot of things, like mites, tend to be species specific).....since the damn things have been moved into my house, and into my room no less. eeeewwy ticks

btw i was newish to bp's when i grabbed them and the majority of my animals are cb. I honestly would never go anything other than cb after my experience.

a lot of us starting out thinking WCs are an easy route and have to learn the hard way. I certainly did, and a lot of the others here have tried it too. It's not......and we all get told that.....but somehow a lot of us just have to learn it the hard way for ourselves. I'll certainly never bring another WC in to my collection. I bought those subadults in 03'.......most of my CH 03 baby's are bigger better breeders now.....and they never had ticks! Live and learn.

All part and parcel of picking up WC animals. Certainly not worth it in my opinion.

some people have to poke in about wc's again and again.

YES, now i know these problems come with them.

NO, i do not wish to ever deal with wc's again.

I, still have them however, and would like to do the best i can wit them.

Wipe it down with virgin olive oil and apply it limberly and let it stand for 45 min. then wipe off the excess with a clean paper towel , Don’t wash off with soap , just leave it alone and it will be fine and will come off with the next shed and will kill ticks and mites. We did that to remove external parasites at the zoo when I was a teen and worked in the reptile dept. . David of DS Reptile Rescue

i actually think you advised me on this earlier. and despite it being a really good idea and having heard of its effectiveness in the past, i guess i was the one bound to screw it up.

yea i did just that. who knows...these are the uber ticks i guess.

thanks again man you always are very helpful.
