new shipment...

captotterboy Jul 12, 2007 06:19 PM

Hello
I am getting a shipment of new geckos next week (tengerine possible het rainwaters). I have a tank ready for the females (30brdr for 4 females the larger female below). They are all around 22grms. I have another female that i want to put in the tank with them but she is 45 grms and i think that is a little too big for a tank full of smaller females and she might begin bullying and out competing the others for food. How big do the smaller females have to be before i can put my larger female in with them?

Thank you, and serious answers only please,
Jeff

I think you should wait until the smaller ones are quite a bit bigger. That's a pretty substantial size differential. I'd be thinking about quarantine as well, no need to take an unnecessary chance. For now, I'd keep the little ones in the big tank, and then when they get to about 35 grams or so, intro the big girl. Then, she'll still be big enough to hold her own against the group, and the others will have more of a fighting chance. Have fun, wish I was getting 3 new leos.

So it will be ok to house all five females together once the new females are around 35 grms even though the established female will be around 50 or 55 by that point?

I'd give it a shot, maybe err on the side of caution and wait until they were closer to 35-40. Just watch them closely, and do only short periods before leaving the big one in there permanently. It's still risky, but I think it's a little more realistic than when one is 22 and the other is 45. Just proceed with caution, and good luck. And who knows, maybe by the time they're all big enough, you'll have changed your mind and like things the way they are.
