Hi there........its axanthic.......if you spell is right it is easy to do an image search on google, if there is any pics. Can you post pics of your snakes?.......Mike

Axanthic genetics are usually proven Recessive, as far as rarity goes, they are fairly rare, I'm not sure if too many lines have been proven or if any have so far. Hope that helps some!

hiya,

Thanks guys, that helps a fair bit. i'd searched on google under both ways of spelling it but hadnt been able to find many pics at all.

Ben - thanks for the pic, thats a beautiful snake you have there!

I got two pair of anacondas recently, one pair of which i think may be axanthic. they're the same grey as the snake in the photo Ben posted, but without the yellow around the blotches. i guess you could almost describe them as smoky blue. does that sound like axanthic colouration to you guys??

i'll try to get some decent pics as soon as they've had a chance to settle properly.

thanks for your replies!

Yes,....

"Axanthic"(xanthos = yellow in Greek) refers to the LACK of yellow pigment in cells known as xanthophores(chromatophores responsible for yellows), whereas "xanthic" would describe an animal with an abundance of yellow coloration.

So, yes, the grayish colored Yellow Anaconda you described would be "AXANTHIC".
