Thread

I read the thread from the person below asking "what morph is this" and it disturbs me. Alot of people on this forum cry about the market and say "we need to educate the public". Here's someone who may just be getting into Balls - does anyone think that bashing someone who doesn't know or is trying to get info is a good way to "educate the public"? That may have been a potential customer for someone. Would that person be treated the same if they were at your table at a show buying something and asked those questions? How does this person feel about Balls now that they took a beating for asking questions? Everyone likes to feel like they have something special. Not everything is. We should encourage people who think they have something to breed it and if they feel stongly enough that its a "something" hopefully they will. If something new comes of it - great for all of us and if not - they get an education and some nice normals!
We should practice what we preach "educate not castrate"
If thats not enough remember what your momma used to tell ya

"If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all"

Boy, do I remember THAT one

And I agree with you, by the way.

This hobby is a mixed bag. I've found that the vast majority of people are decent, friendly, helpful people and have made some great friends because of it. Then there are the other 10% who use the internet to make themselves feel superior by bashing people and using their "knowledge" (that they read on some forum the day before) to make themselves feel larger than life.

Bringing in more new excited people will help sustain the hobby for years to come. Look, we all know there are questions posted here daily that seem silly to those of use who have been participating in the hobby for a while but there are many ways to politely educate newbies while encouraging their interests.

The world has enough jerks.

well said
Hopefully it will get the other 10% to think!!

I think its more than 10%, there are actually quite a few shady people out there who do all kinds of crap like selling bogus hets etc. etc. etc.

I agree that he probably did get a beheading for asking a simple question. But when he started to trash-talk the balls, I went off on him. He really ticked me off and I highly doubt you'll see him on here again. I was also wondering why he had the BP's in the first place even if he didn't like them. Just my thoughts though.

Several people told him that his animals weren't anything other than normals, if you go back you will see he started questioning their opinions...after he asked for them!..."explain to me why this one isn't special" or words to that effect. He seemed to think I was hard on him. That was certainly not my intention even after he mentioned the word "market" "I was planning to market it, but I did not want to sell it as something it is not.....someone with that little knowledge about an animal shouldn't be selling them and certainly not "marketing" them to anyone....period. Uneducated people have destroyed the venomous market, so perhaps I don't have patience that I once did for people asking questions that are easily answered with a little bit of research. In retrospect, all I suggested in my post was for him to purchase some books, If you want to start selling a species to others, $50-75 for an excellent book isn't out of the question in my opinion. I also reccomended that he purchase a proven mutation (pastel) or he should enjoy his animals for what they are and not what they can do for him financially. I think he showed his true colors in his later posts. To anyone who may be worried about asking questions....well, I don't even think this is necessary, someone who cares about Ball Pythons and learning about them, wouldn't ask questions like that AND respond in that way.

Of course, just my opinion....

qiksilver5 Jul 13, 2007 12:36 AM

see at first I would have agreed with you.
But then came the ball pythons are stupid, I'm just trying to sell these, comments and I quickly stopped feeling bad about the comments he received.

I agree that people shouldn't have jumped him. If you don't want to answer newbie questions, then don't. No need to bash people for trying to learn. That's the whole purpose of a forum. If people can only ask questions that aren't asnwered anywhere else on the interweb, then Kingsnake.com won't last long.

BUT, then he got all childish himself and completely lost my respect. It's hilarious that "coachwhips are a real man's snake" because they bite.......... or squirm around a lot.... or something. I didn't quite follow it. I was catching them at age 10 and their bites are almost as bad as the scratches I got chasing them through the briars.

Anyway, I guess we should ALL try be a little more tolerant. And if you don't like BP's don't have them.

If I remember correctly he started the bashing when he didn’t get the responses he was looking for ,so in my opinion he got what he ask for. Just MHO. Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue
