The latin phrase Sic Semper Tyrannis that is used in my tagline is pertaining to the Great Seal of Virginia. Pictured in the seal is the Roman Goddess "Virtus" standing in victory over a defeated Tyrant. The state's motto Sic Semper Tyrannis "Thus Always to Tyrants"is at the bottom of the state seal. I just wanted to clear that up to show that it was not intended to be used in reference to what may have been shouted by John Wilkes Booth during Lincoln's assassination.

>>i was simply curious as to why steve craig had a quote of president lincoln's assassin as his 'tagline'

But that Latin phrase is EXACTLY what JWB meant as he shot Lincoln. The Civil War (this may be unpopular) was fought mostly over States Rights issues, one of which was Slavery. The US is a collection of Sovereign States banded together for their common advantage, The Constitution tells how the FedGov is Supposed to behave. It doensn't, and that is for another thread.

In any event, Licoln was placed in the position of either saving the Union by ignoring what the country was, as well as ignoring the Constitution, or to let the country fall apart. He chose to force it to stay together. He was labeled by those unsympathetic to him as a TYRANT. As far as tyrants go, I wish we could go back to that age, as there was a greater self-reliance and much greater individual liberty then. But, in that day, Tyrant may have been a fitting title for him.
