So, if she hasn't laid eggs yet...

aero_tiff Jul 12, 2007 11:15 PM

...should I worry?

I caught my kids in the act June 15th. I read Eve's site beginning to end for all the breeding, laying, hatching info. I've created a deep, damp corner for laying, provided extra calcium dusted feeders... I watch Roz gain weight, shed, eat like a horse, and shed *again* today... but still no sign of eggs.

So I'm wondering... how do you *really* know if they are preggers?

She sure is fat, but when she flattens out to bask, I don't see any super obvious lumps resembling eggs. Her orange stripes just started to fade 2 days ago, so I thought maybe she'd lay any day now but she's still eating and lounging, no digging.

What's a girl to do? Is she faking pregnant to scare a commitment out of her mate, Hurley? (Kidding, kidding...) Anybody else ever see this seemingly mock pregancy? Suppose she just fattened up for breeding season, was never fertilized and her weight will drop back down soon?
I mean, I've never seen her shed twice within a month's time. Ahhhhh, I'm so anxious, waiting for my babies. Help, anybody?
Before and after pics beeeelow.

Thanks guys,
~Tiff

It sounds like she may have reabsorbed the eggs. If she was graivd she would have laid the eggs at about day 20 to 25.
Since her bars are fading, she probably reabsorbed the eggs.

She is a nice looking gal!

Reabsorbed the eggs, eh? Now *that's* interesting; from the tone of your post, sounds like I don't have to worry about it either. That's a relief (well, kind, since I wanted babies). Any reason why she would do that?

Thanks! This pic was taken a few days before she shed, so she's even prettier now.

Hi Tiff, sometimes they just DO... it's a pretty neat ability to be able to do it,

** Anyway I would still leave a place for her, just incase. Some of my girls take longer to lay than the normal 23 day time.
