Two Weeks ago. Tons of anoles and five line skinks. What really made the trip was the 6 alligators, including a 6 footer who tried to munch on some 2-3 footers, and a southern black racer that lived right outside our hotel room that thwarted me every time I tried to catch it. Oh yea, I also saw tons of sliders and two diamondback terrapins.

...Hilton Head is just east of the Okeetee. If you had gone over there and trespassed (be careful, lots of folks in that area tend to carry guns) and flipped some boards and sheet metal you could have found several Southern Black Racers. They are really fast and tough to catch during the hottest weather.

Darn I wish I had known that. Oh well, at least I got to see the same black racer almost everyday! Maybe in the near future I'll check out Okeetee.

Well Scott you found a racer pimp and have successfully lived up to your screen name and those alligators are ruthless too but easy food is easy food kind of like taking candy from a kid on halloween I would suppose

Those young gators escaped the 6-footer's maw. I wasn't particularly sure if it was trying to eat the younger ones, might have just been trying to scare them off and show who's boss. I guess this because the large one did hae its back out of the water, according to the late Steve Irwin that's a sign of dominance.

so it was like taking candy from kids on halloween with PARENTS lol but j/k. It sucks also that when momma bears go to eat salmon at that time of the year and they bring their cubs with them that the big male sometimes kills the cub(s) or when an older lion can't hunt as efficient as he once could that he kills humans at a nearby village but that is the circle of life as I see it. I'm glad you got to see your racer but next time you're keeping it right?
