Can I get some suggestions for a 20 gallon tank?
I prefer that the animal doesn't require much more maintenance than a bearded dragon.

you have a few options. crested gecko is a good choice. leopard is god so are anoles or smaller skinks.

Crested geckos really prefer a vertical tank. I'd say leopard gecko or african fat tail gecko would be nice. Or a small snake, like a western hognose.
