Joe K. Jul 14, 2007 11:18 AM

Hatched out a Paradox Albino today. Any ideas of its value ? Thanks, Joe

Nothing... damn those random black blemishes!
Just send it over to my paradox research center for evaluation.
BTW: Pics would have been nice!

The same as any snake. They are worth what someone is willing to pay. Nobody has proven that paradox anything is genetic and reproduceable. Strictly random which makes them unique. More of a novelty for display. So it really depends on its look and how bad someone wants it.
Post it and see what offers you get.

They seem to be popping up more and more but they are still random (non-genetic as of yet). Because they are still rare at this point I have seen them selling for anywhere between 7500 and 10k. Again they are worth what someone will pay. Sure they are worth more then a normal even if they aren't genetic. My personal opinion is they are priceless!

I would assume paradox albinos are "popping up more" because people are producing more albinos each year. I would venture a guess that each year roughly the same ratio of paradox albino to albino ball pythons are produced.
As far as value is concerned I think it depends totally on the reason the buyer is purchasing the snake. If he/she is buying the snake simply for the albino genetics then I wouldn't expect them to want to pay more than a regular albino. Should the buyer be wanting a unique rare albino on the other hand for aesthetic reasons, he or she might be willing to part with a small increase in price to compensate for the rarity. If I were the buyer I could not justify more than a 100% increase in price. Lucky for us we all have differing opinions when it comes to perceived value.

How about posting some pics and just keeping that guy. Why would you want to sale your paradox? Every one produces albino's but few produce paradox.

a photo is variation, I think we can all agree that the Paradox that Eric Sandoval has would be "worth" much more than one with a few random normal scales/patches, like the snow posted below (no offense to that animal at all, it's still quite beautiful and "valuable" itself)

Along with apparently not being reproduced in a predictable manner, and more interesting (IMO) is whether the animals themselves produce offspring as the mutation they exhibit or as a normal...and does that change when you have an albino snake with small normal patches vs. a normal appearing animal with a few amelanistic patches? And if so, at what percentage does the snake become a homozygous amel? Neat stuff for someone to find out.

Congrats on hatching one.

No offense taken. My new hatchling (paradox albino below) has very little spotting. (The roomy was trying to clean it off with a soapy rag when it finally hit him it was permanent!) It's still a cool characteristic, but I'd love to have one like Eric's or The Snake Keepers. They're awesome.
