a question about BRBs

superdave1781 Jul 14, 2007 11:30 AM

hi all, I have a question about a new BRB setup. Right now, I have my BRB in a 20 gallon tank...she is growing like a weed now and has completely recovered from her horrible conditions she was in when I got her. Anyways, while me and my wife where picking up a 6'x2'x2' cage we had in storage at her moms house, we saw a 55 gallon approx. 4'x1'x1.5' (identical to the one I mentioned in previous post with bearded dragon) sitting on the curb in a neighborhood, which here in Virginia means "you want it, you take it!" lol so we took it. Question is, although it is long enough and tall enough, would only approx. 1 foot deep be enough for a full grown BRB? I know a lot of you breeders keep yours in an enclosure that is overall smaller, but more cube shaped, and I'm worried that only one foot deep might not be good. Thanks advance for any responses.
P.S. I'm not breeding any of them yet, and all of my cages are really for "display" so even though some of the rack systems, etc. would probably work great, I want to use good "display" setups.

as most rack systems for brb's are not much taller than a foot, it should be fine. The larger 6'x2'x2' cage would be great for a full grown BRB, especially if yours gets closer to the 7' mark, but it can spend the entire life in the 4' long cage. Floor space is more important though a BRB will climb if it has the means to.

The large cage will make the better display cage as you can put stout branches and other climbing material, fake plants etc to make it pretty looking for a central piece in your house. But do remember BRB can weight a fair bit, 5 pounds easily when full grown so make sure any branches are thick and sturdy.

Hey! kajika's vivarium is 6x2x2! show me what you do with it when you are all done. I love seeing people's larger display cages.

hi there,
I guess I wasn't clear about the cage arrangement. A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a 55 gallon cage and a six foot columbian boa from a friend. I had been wanting a large bci for awhile, but had been waiting on a good deal. We had the 6'x2'x2' cage in storage at my wife's mother's house, so we went down to pick it up in Roanoke. When we were leaving, we saw another 55 gallon sitting on the side of the road, so we picked it up and brought it home. We moved the bci (Athena) into the 6 foot cage.
Here are a couple pics of her in her home

It is nothing compared to your setups, Jasmine! I love both of yours!
My wife had been wanting a bearded dragon for years, so now that we had two 55 gallons, she got one for one of the cages.

So now I have the other 55 gallon cage, and I want to move my BRB into that cage, but I was concerned that a width (front to back) of one foot would be too narrow. Would it be too narrow for an adult, or would it be fine??

I also have a couple of pics of Prometheus' cage, my argentine boa. This is a cage I built myself, and is 6' x2.5'wide x2' tall. You can't really tell from the pic, but I built a ramp up to the water bowl, and lined the cage with linoleum. Hope you all like the pics!
